The tractor-trailer from Trey's Trucking had a full tank of diesel fuel, which exploded on impact, troopers said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Eric Graydon of Indian Trail, was not injured.

The driver of the pick-up truck, Ray Jackson III, was taken to the hospital with broken bones and cuts. He will be charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving.

Prior to the collision, dispatch received calls about a pick-up truck matching Jackson's vehicle that was being driven erratically.

The road was shut down well into the evening.
