Two missing NC boaters found alive after 10 days lost at sea

OUTER BANKS, N.C. — Two missing North Carolina boaters have been found alive after 10 days at sea, the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed.

Kevin Hyde, Joe Ditomasso and their dog had been missing from the Outer Banks since last weekend when they left the Oregon Inlet in a sailboat on their way to Florida.

The two men were found about 200 miles off the Delaware Coast by a tanking vessel named the ‘Silver Muna.’ The Coast Guard said the men were able to get the vessel’s attention by waving their arms and a flag.

According to the USCG, Hyde and Ditomasso’s 30-foot sailboat had run out of power and fuel leaving them stranded.

The ‘Silver Muna’ brought the men aboard where the vessel’s medic team assessed them. The medical staff said the men had no “immediate concerns.”

Both men are staying aboard the Silver Muna until it reaches New York. From there, the boaters will be transferred to a USCG vessel, examined by medical staff again and reunited with family.
