CHARLOTTE — A busy road in the University City area was blocked Friday afternoon because of a gas line break, police said. It is expected to be cleared at about 8:30 p.m., the DOT stated.
It happened just before 1 p.m. Friday.
Charlotte Fire said an 8-inch steel natural gas line had been cut near the intersection of Medical Plaza Drive and West W.T. Harris Boulevard. Piedmont Natural Gas crews were working to repair it.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said W.T. Harris Boulevard was closed in both directions and would remain so until about 6 p.m. Friday.

Firefighters asked drivers in the area to be careful and expect delays.
