MINT HILL, N.C. — Police are investigating after they said vandals struck the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Mint Hill Monday night.
It appeared they broke or destroyed everything they could, detectives told Channel 9.
Someone walking by the church heard the fire alarm at about midnight and called police.
“They came and pushed this glass in here,” Rev. Joe Mullis said Tuesday.
Police took pictures and hope someone who knows who damaged the church will come forward.
“(There is a lot) of vandalism, lots of damage,” Mint Hill police Sgt. Tim Lezette said. “Someone went in thinking they were funny and having fun breaking TVs, crosses, pictures, windows in offices and tearing desks apart.”
Church member Clyde Coleman said it was rotten what the vandals did.
“I never heard of that but the way people act now, it don’t surprise me,” Coleman said.
Police believe those responsible were teens.
Mullis said they’re going to get everything cleaned up and keep trying to reach out to the community with their message of faith, including the people who damaged the church.
