CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man has been charged after police say he hit two Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers with a car in uptown early Saturday.
It happened just after 1 a.m. on West 5th Street near North Church Street.
Police said a driver hit both officers with a car before driving off. The officers were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings said the driver was identified as 20-year-old Jose Fraire. He was arrested Tuesday night and charged with two counts of felony hit-and-run and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.
CMPD said Fraire was not known to officers before the incident.
