CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a wanted man after he jumped from a vehicle and ran during an attempted traffic stop in south Charlotte Thursday evening.

According to CMPD, officers attempted to pull over Kharee Cartwright, 23, near Riverbirch Road to serve him warrants for assault on a female and several drug-related charges.
When Cartwright refused to stop, officials said they did not chase him, but the CMPD helicopter continued to follow his vehicle overhead.
Officers said Cartwright drove to Mereview Court, jumped out of the vehicle and fled to an apartment complex on Shady Trail Lane with a backpack and handgun.

Cartwright left the apartment without the backpack and was arrested a shortly after, according to CMPD.
After contacting the resident of the apartment Cartwright entered during the pursuit, officers learned the resident did not know Cartwright and that he had forced his way into her home.
Upon further investigation inside the apartment, officers said they found a stolen firearm, a scale used to weigh marijuana and over 4 ounces of marijuana inside the backpack Cartwright was carrying.
Cartwright has been charged with fleeing to elude, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, breaking and entering, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, in addition to the prior warrants.
