Water Issue Advisory issued for Lincoln County after potential leak into Forney Creek

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A water issue advisory has been issued for Lincoln County for a sewage spill on Little Egypt Road in Denver on Sunday morning.

According to a release from the Lincoln County Health Director, about 4,500 gallons of untreated sewage could’ve leaked into Forney Creek after a generator malfunction caused by a power outage.

Officials say the generator is up and running, the flow has been stopped, and the water in and around the discharge site is being tested.

For public safety, the health director is telling residents the area might be contaminated with fecal coliform. Residents are also asked not to come in contact with the contaminated water; advisory signs will be posted in the area.

Water samples are being taken and will be sent to the county’s Public Works department. Until at least two back-to-back samples return with less than 200 milliliters of fecal coliform, the public will not be allowed to resume creek activities.
