CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Diversity and inclusion is a hot-button topic for corporate America. Most executives today agree that having more diverse leaders and employees correlates to better business.
San Francisco-based Wells Fargo & Co. is in that camp. Listed as one of the bank's five primary values, diversity and inclusion is an initiative from the top and across all lines of business.
For example, as of 2018, more than 44% of Wells Fargo's workforce in the U.S. was ethnically diverse, and 57% of that workforce was female. More than half of Wells Fargo's board of directors, for example, is comprised of women, including chairman Betsy Duke, and/or ethnically diverse members.
"I do think it's a journey, a journey we've been on for a very long time," said Shannan Townsend, head of the eastern division of Wells Fargo's Food, Beverage and Agribusiness group. "We're continuing to see the fruits of that labor with diverse people in leadership roles."
