‘We’ve complied’: Private club owners push back against efforts to shut their doors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Since they reopened in May, VBGB Beer Hall & Garden owners Kara and Tom Taddeo said they’ve been trying to play by the state’s rules.

So, they were surprised when a Charlotte Mecklenburg police officer showed up at their business in the the Music Factory Thursday night and told them that they had to shut down because they’re a private club.

“We’ve complied, complied, complied. We’ve done everything handed down to us,” Kara Taddeo said.

According to CMPD, the governor’s executive order bans private clubs from selling alcohol, which includes places you might traditionally think of as a bar or restaurant.
