When viewing will be best for the Perseid meteor shower in the Carolinas

CHARLOTTE — It’s the time of year again for a nightly show in the sky. The annual Perseid meteor shower takes place through Aug. 24.

Depending on where you are, there is potential to see as many as 40 meteors shooting across the sky each hour.

The peak of the meteor shower is between Aug. 11 and 13, but that also coincides with a full moon that may make viewing more difficult.

Late July is expected to be one of the best times to see the sky show. The new moon will mean less light to steal the stage from shooting stars.
