Where home sales have jumped, dropped across Charlotte market

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — During the first six months of 2019, sales of existing homes have seesawed some in the greater Charlotte area.

In January through March, sales were down anywhere from 0.9% to 9% when compared to the previous year. While up a slight 0.1% and 0.5% in April and May, respectively, sales headed back in a downward direction in June, dropping 6.1%.

But, from January-June, closed sales have remained steady from the same six-month period last year. There were 24,025 closings recorded in the first half of 2019, up 0.8% from 23,840 during the same time in 2018.

The data, covering existing single-family homes, condominiums and townhouses, comes from Carolina Multiple Listing Services Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association.

The Charlotte Business Journal decided to take a closer look at these housing statistics to drill down into which parts of the local market are seeing the highest growth in home sales year over year — as well as the biggest declines in sale counts.

This slideshow provides a snapshot of home sales within different cities and towns across the Charlotte region during the first half of the year.
