CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Now that Halloween is over and we’re all shaking off the sugar shock, it’s time to begin preparing for the holiday season — and for many people, that means making travel arrangements. For those flying to their destinations, travel website Orbitz.com has put together a guide on “The Best and Worst Airports to Get Delayed at this Holiday Season.”

It ranks the nation’s 15 busiest airports based on factors such as flight delays and cancellations, shopping and dining outlets, Wi-Fi speeds and more — and Charlotte Douglas International Airport comes in dead last.
Orbitz notes that while CLT performs well in terms of delays and cancellations, with just over 83% of flights departing on time and only 1.8% being canceled, the local airport is lacking when it comes to amenities.
“CLT has 36 shops and 49 dining outlets on site,” reads the blurb on Charlotte Douglas. “There are only 21 bars and 8 coffee shops, far less than other airports. While it does provide free Wi-Fi, the download speed of just 9.76Mbps is the second lowest on our list.”
However, local travelers might be encouraged by recent news of new establishments opening up at CLT.
