CHARLOTTE — A 7-month-old boy has died after suffering life-threatening injuries in Charlotte, and a woman who was previously charged with child abuse now faces a murder charge, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
CMPD said Crime Against Children detectives were contacted by the Department of Social Services on Sept. 10 about Julien Malik Grayson, who had arrived at a hospital with serious injuries.
Detectives identified 28-year-old Shidae Monique Sellers as a suspect. She was arrested and initially charged with child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
On Sept. 15, homicide detectives and Crime Scene Search personnel responded to the scene to investigate and collect physical evidence because Grayson was not expected to survive his injuries.
The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital Wednesday, Sept. 16.
On Thursday, detectives obtained a murder warrant for Sellers. The warrant was served while she remained in custody at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
