Man charged with murder after woman shot, killed in west Charlotte parking lot

CHARLOTTE — Police have arrested a man and charged him with murder after a woman was shot in a west Charlotte parking lot Monday night.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. near a convenience store along Rozzelles Ferry Road.

When Channel 9 crews got to the scene, paramedics had the woman, 30-year-old Zenita Graham, on a stretcher and were loading her into an ambulance.

Police said she was alert and was actually able to talk with officers, so, initially, it appeared to them that she would survive.

Graham died at the hospital, though.

On Tuesday night, police arrested Dayshawn Beckham and charged him with Graham’s murder.

Investigators have not said how many times Graham was shot but told Eyewitness News there was some sort of exchange that happened between a few people in several cars in the parking lot.

“It occurred in the parking lot … near a couple vehicles,” said CMPD Maj. Dave Robinson. “We’re still trying to piece together exactly what that looks like. Obviously, we talk about things like this, we want to talk to any witnesses who may have seen or heard anything.”

Detectives said there were several people outside at the time of the shooting and are trying to speak with any witnesses.
