Woman stabbed by boyfriend escapes through window, police say

YORK, S.C. — A woman climbed out a window Saturday after being attacked by her boyfriend, according to York police.

The 41-year-old woman met with police around noon Saturday, according to WSOC-TV news partner The Herald of Rock Hill. She was covered in blood that appeared to be coming from a stab wound on the back of her neck, authorities said.

Shawn Patrick Bell, 43, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Police said he attacked the woman after she told him that “they needed time apart,” according to a police report.

Bell got a kitchen knife, told the victim he was going to kill her and stabbed her in the back of the neck, The Herald reported.

The Herald reported that the victim distracted Bell by asking if he wanted breakfast, police said. She waited until Bell wasn't paying attention, then climbed out a bedroom window to flag down help.

A friend took the victim to police headquarters, and EMS took her to Piedmont Medical Center.

Bell was arrested at Walmart on Liberty Street, according to the police report.
