Woman arrested for firing 15 rounds into car in Hickory, deputies say

HICKORY, N.C. — A woman has been arrested after allegedly shooting into another car.

Melissa Rector is charged with three counts of attempted murder after she fired more than a dozen rounds into a car, according to deputies.

Deputies said they believe that two women got into an argument Friday morning on Lindsey Lane.

One of the women left, but police believe that the suspect followed in her car.

Investigators looked for possible evidence in the case Friday morning.

Officials said they counted as many as 15 rounds fired into the side of the victim's car on Springs Road in northeast Hickory.

A man who was in the back seat was struck on the wrist but is expected to be OK.

“One of the passengers was able to escape injury by getting on the floor,” Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jason Reid said. “The man who was stuck is giving thanks it wasn't worse.”

A second person in the front passenger seat avoided being hit by getting on the floor.

There were no other injuries.
