MONROE, N.C. — A worker died from injuries Tuesday afternoon after crews were called for an industrial accident at Charlotte Pipe & Foundry in Monroe, officials said.
The worker was transported from his workplace on Old Charlotte Highway in Monroe to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Fire officials believe the worker was struck by equipment. The fire department and police department are handling the investigation.
"This is a terrible loss, especially this time of year," Monroe police Chief Brian Gilliard said. "Our hearts go out to the family and co-workers who are affected by this tragedy."
