CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Charlotte City Council's Warren Turner had one scandal after another and voters voted him out. Turner ran unopposed four times, winning every District 3 election since 2003. No fellow Democrats or Republicans ran against him.
But on Tuesday night, LaWana Mayfield beat him by almost 17 percent.
Last year, women who worked for the city said Turner sexually harassed them, and an investigation said they were right.
Then, the state fired Turner as a probation officer over accusations he took his gun to a construction site and ordering workers to stop.
He was also accused of harassing a female police cadet while he was a recruit himself back in the 80s.
Dorothy Waddy is a longtime neighborhood leader in Turner's district and voted for him in his first four runs, but not this time.
She said, "I was ready for a change because, as I said to Warren, to his face and not behind his back, 'You haven't done anything for the area.'"
