Man Dead Following Argument In Burke County

CONNELLY SPRINGS, N.C.,None — Investigators in Burke County say an argument early Thanksgiving morning ended with one man dead and his stepson charged with murder.

It happened on Rhodhiss Road in Connelly Springs around 5:30a.m. Thursday.

When officers arrived, they found the victim, 40-year-old Filiberto Rubio, dead on the back patio.

Witnesses said the suspect, Rubio's stepson, Timothy Paul Bumgarner, had fled the scene on foot.

Bumgarner soon surrendered to police, however.

Officials with the Burke County Sheriff's office said the stepfather tried to fight off his stepson with a snow globe.

Both men had been drinking alcohol, investigators said.

The two, according to investigators, were involved in an argument when the stepfather picked up a snow globe and tried to throw it at his stepson.

That's when the Bumgarner picked up a gun and shot Rubio to death, according to police.

Bumgarner is charged with murder and is being held without bond in the Burke County Jail.
