FORT MILL, S.C.,None — Molly the mooing milk truck has been found.
The Lakeview Farms custom dairy truck that's painted like a cow and goes "moo" when the driver blows the horn was stolen from the Fort Mill-area business Thursday morning. It was found Friday in Charlotte, said Ellen Hinkley, an employee with Lakeview Farms.
Owner Jim Price left a note on the door for employees saying the truck was found and that he's picking it up this morning, Hinkley said.
The Lakeview Farms vehicle was loaded with $3,000 worth of glass-bottled, all-natural milk scheduled to be delivered to doorsteps in the Baxter community Thursday morning. But when Price's drivers arrived for work at the Pleasant Road business shortly after 2 a.m., they found the truck was missing.
"Molly's lost, stolen or kidnapped," Price said Thursday. "We find it unbelievable or amazing that someone would steal something that looks like that. How could you conceal her?"
Molly is a 2000 big-box Chevrolet truck with a black-and-white Holstein paint scheme and "Lakeview Farms" painted on the side.
"It's not going to be easy to hide driving down the road," Price said of the $40,000 truck.
Molly is one of two trucks the company uses to deliver milk and other dairy products, Price said. The other one is called Daisy.
Lakeview Farms primarily delivers to Fort Mill, Tega Cay and areas of Charlotte and Lancaster County.
When he discovered Molly was stolen, Price called his regular morning customers to tell them they wouldn't get their deliveries until Thursday afternoon.
Price said he has a very loyal customer base that's almost like a family.
"We're close to our customers; the children know the milkman," Price said. "It's a connection different than other home delivery services. We're there on a regular schedule."
