Baseball fans waited so long, but it's finally here. Opening Day 2023 has arrived, with promise of one of the most exciting starts to a season in years.
All 30 teams were in play Thursday. The opening slate of pitchers featured eight Cy Young award winners and 21 All-Stars. Plus, it brought the regular-season debut of all the new rules.
In the early window, the Yankees and Braves cruised to wins over the Giants and Nationals, respectively. The Cubs put up a solid showing in their Opening Day victory over the Brewers, and the Orioles squeaked out a win over the Red Sox.
Later, the Mets topped the Marlins despite some pitch-timer shenanigans, the Pirates bested the Reds, and the Rays and Twins notched their first victories of the season. Finally, the Rangers won a wild one against the Phillies, and the Blue Jays emerged victorious from a high-scoring affair with the Cardinals.
