New baseball stadium planned for Third Ward

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Baseball is headed for uptown Charlotte.

The Charlotte Knights’ new stadium is being planned for the Third Ward neighborhood, at the intersections of Mint, Martin Luther King, Graham and 4th Street. The BB&T Ballpark is expected to open in the spring of 2014.

The Charlotte City Council recently signed off on spending $8 million to help fund the minor league stadium.

The money will come from two places: $7.25 million will come from city tourism funding and $750,000 will come from Center City Partners, the group that helps to develop uptown Charlotte.

Officials expect the new stadium to bring about 700 jobs to Charlotte.
