ROCK HILL, S.C.,None — Police have charged the accused shooter nearly two years after a man was shot dead in the parking lot of a Cherry Road business.
Eduardo Hernandez, 26, of Red Springs, N.C. was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder and other charges in connection with the Dec. 6, 2009 shooting death of Hector Haro.
Haro met a man in the parking lot of a Cherry Road shopping center over a $7,000 debt.
Haro, 36, then was found shot dead inside a Honda Pilot in the Kmart parking lot. Hours later, police charged 35-year-old Juan Silva Gonzalez with murder.
Gonzalez has pleaded guilty to charges in connection with this incident and he agreed to cooperate with investigators to locate the others involved. Another man, Jason Jackson has been charged with accessory before and after the fact and criminal conspiracy.
Lt. Brad Redfearn said another that man could face charges in this incident is in custody in another jurisdiction on unrelated charges.
Gonzalez pleaded guilty in January in York County to voluntary manslaughter and assault and battery with intent to kill.
Gonzalez had been charged with murder, assault and battery with intent to kill and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Solicitors said the negotiated plea to a lesser charge was in exchange for cooperation from Gonzalez. He will be sentenced at a later date.
Haro and Nazario Garcia, who was shot in the arm, were meeting a man named "Juan" over a $7,000 debt involving the sale of a trailer, Rock Hill Police Detective Bruce Haire has said. Garcia identified "Juan" as Juan Silva Gonzalez, the man police charged after the shooting.
Two late-night phone calls from a blocked number lured Haro and Garcia to the Kmart, 2302 Cherry Road, after 11:30 p.m. Dec. 5, 2009. The investigation showed Gonzalez owed Haro $7,000.
In his statement, Garcia told police they met with Gonzalez and another man and there was a discussion that turned "heated" about the debt.
"I saw Gonzalez motion with his hand for the other person to come out from behind cars," Garcia told police. "That person shot them."
Police arrived at the Cherry Road parking lot around 2:30 a.m. Garcia had already been taken to the hospital and they found Haro dead inside the vehicle. Haro had been shot in the forehead, police said.
In interviews with police after the incident, Gonzalez has denied involvement in the shooting and hadn't named anyone else involved in the incident.
Hernandez also faces attempted murder, criminal conspiracy and a firearm charge.
