CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police found the body of a man on the front porch of a home in east Charlotte Sunday morning.
What neighbors thought were fireworks, turned out to be gunshots.
Police said they found Timothy Staten's body with a single gunshot wound on Erskine Drive and pronounced him dead at the scene.
One neighbor said she saw Staten on the porch, but didn't know he was hurt.
"I thought the man was sitting on the porch, thought he was sick. When I see police I thought something bad happened," Zadeen Manson said.
Police said Staten was involved in a fight with another man at Creekside Retreat Apartments earlier Sunday morning.
Witnesses said they heard at least one gunshot and saw Mr. Staten run away from the complex toward Erskine Drive.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg investigators continued to interview witnesses Sunday afternoon.
No suspects have been identified.
