More than 60 South Carolina roads, bridges still closed after Matthew

COLUMBIA, S.C. — More than two weeks after Hurricane Matthew hit South Carolina there are still more than 60 state roads and bridges closed because of storm damage and flooding.

The state Department of Transportation reports that 55 roads and six bridges remained closed Sunday. The department expects about 20 of them to reopened to traffic before Thanksgiving.

Most of the closed roads and bridges are in Dillon and Horry counties.

The department reports that the Socastee swing bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Horry County is again operating and boat traffic can pass.

Almost 100,000 cubic yards of storm debris has been removed from state roads and highways since Matthew hit.
