South Carolina police officer hurt in ambush returns to job 6 months later

FLORENCE, S.C. — A police officer wounded in a shootout in South Carolina has returned to work after six months.

Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone said Investigator Sarah Miller returned to full duty on March 25.

Authorities say Miller was one of seven officers wounded on Oct. 3 when a man ambushed three Florence County deputies coming to a prearranged interview with his son. Four Florence city police officers were also shot trying to rescue their wounded comrades.

Florence County Investigator Farrah Turner and Florence Police Sgt. Terrence Carraway were killed.

Miller spent 16 days in the hospital before heading to a rehabilitation center.

Boone told WPDE-TV that Miller's grit and tenacity to get back to the job she loves has been an inspiration.
