Threat to Rock Hill high school traced back to Texas, police say

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A threat to a South Carolina high school was traced all the way back to a 20-year-old in Texas, according to police.

Rock Hill Police say a threat of a school shooting towards Northwestern High School on Monday was discovered after it had been circulating on social media. The threat included words like “shoot up” and referred to the school as “NWHS,” according to Rock Hill police.

The Rock Hill Police Department began an investigation to find the source of the threat. Additional officers were sent to Northwestern, as well as the schools nearby. The increased safety measures lasted for the rest of the day Monday.

RHPD found the threat was made by a person in Harris County, Texas. Detectives contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Office to talk about the threat and get help. The investigation continued in Harris County and investigators traced the threat back to Chris Morales.

According to RHPD, Morales had a social media connection with a student at Northwestern High School before the threat was made.

Morales is being charged in Texas for terroristic threat and was taken into custody Monday night.
