Daniel Mercer, 27, and Whittney Huber, 30, were arrested after doctors discovered the child had two broken arms, bleeding on the brain and detached retinas, the television station reported, citing court documents.

This is the third biological child to be taken from Huber's care, the Daily Herald reported, citing a report from the Spanish Fork Police Department. The woman was charged with child abuse and neglect in the cases of the other two children, according to the report.

Doctors said the 3-month-old's injuries occurred over a two-week period, KUTV reported.

According to a detective, Mercer admitted to "recklessly causing the burns" to his infant daughter's left hand, the television station reported.

The child will remain at the hospital for an "undetermined amount of time," KUTV reported.

Mercer was booked into the Utah County Jail with a recommended bail of $21,600, the television station reported. Recommended bail for Huber was $10,000.
