Redskins cornerback Josh Norman donates $18K to Texas migrant facility

MCALLEN, Texas — Redskins cornerback Josh Norman continued to help migrant families detained at the U.S.-Mexico border this week by donating $18,000 to a Texas immigrant detention center.

Sister Norma Seni Pimentel, executive director for Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, tweeted a picture Thursday of Norman standing with a group of children at a McAllen respite center holding a massive check.

“Kudos to Josh Norman with the Washington Redskins for visiting the humanitarian respite center/McAllen today & contributing to our response to restore human dignity,” Pimentel said.

This was Norman's second visit to the center, which has taken in thousands of immigrants over the past several weeks, KGBT-TV reported.

Norman's charity work at the border began last summer when he heard of the now-reversed "zero-tolerance" immigration policy that led to thousands of families being separated, CNN reported. He visited a Walmart in San Antonio and filled carts with toys, books and school supplies that he donated to children at detention centers.

"Everybody sees it. Everybody knows this is going on, so what are you going to do about it? You going to show up and put up or see it and shut up? Which one?” Norman told KGBT-TV. “I encourage everyone who is watching or paying attention, if you can get out here, do get out here for yourself. It's not something we kid around with. This is people's lives."

Norman has played for the Redskins since 2016, according to the team's website. He told KGBT-TV he plans to donate his game checks throughout the year.
