HAYWARD, Calif. — Two people were killed and two others were injured after shots were fired at a California hookah lounge early Saturday, authorities said.
According to a news release from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, shots were fired at about 1:38 a.m. PDT at the Asli Hookah Lounge & Smoke Shop in Hayward.
Deputies arriving at 1:43 a.m. initially found one unresponsive person in front of the lounge, the East Bay Times reported. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
Three other people who were shot were taken to two area hospitals, the sheriff’s office said. One of the victims was later pronounced dead, while the other two were receiving treatment for unknown injuries.
Deputies characterized the shooting as “targeted” after an altercation inside the lounge, KGO-TV reported.
Authorities confirmed the two deaths at about 9:20 a.m., PDT, according to the television station.
“We have no reason to believe this is a continuing safety concern,” the sheriff’s department tweeted.
