LAREDO, Texas — Border patrol agents discovered nine illegal migrants hiding in a manhole on Tuesday near the Texas-Mexico border, authorities said.
According to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, agents with the Laredo Sector were alerted to people crossing the Rio Grande near Riverside Drive in Laredo.
The people were seen going into a sewer tunnel near the river at about 10 p.m. CDT, the release stated.
Agents began investigating several manholes, and after “an exhaustive search” located nine people hiding in a manhole at Santa Monica Avenue and Mann Road, according to the release.
After record checks were conducted, agents determined that the seven adults and two juveniles had entered the country illegally from Mexico.
They were taken into custody for processing, the CBP said.
