SAN DIMAS, Calif. — A 23-year-old Upland, California, man has been charged with murder following the stabbing death of a woman and her dog in San Dimas on Thursday.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified the victim as Jeanne Edgar, 66, of Glendora, KABC reported.
According to KCAL, Ricardo Saldivar is charged with murder in Edgar’s death and attempted murder in connection to an attempted attack moments earlier on a man identified as Joe Page near Lone Hill Park. Saldivar’s bail was set at $2 million.
“The call indicated a woman was screaming and later updated indicating a woman was being stabbed,” the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said in a statement, referencing the 1:35 p.m. report of an assault with a deadly weapon, the TV station reported.
Saldivar reportedly approached Page with a knife clearly visible, prompting Page to run to his car and the suspect to turn his attention toward Edgar, who was walking her dog, Sashi. According to the sheriff’s department, Saldivar stabbed both Edgar and Sashi fatally, KABC reported.
The department also stated that Page threw a rock at the suspect, striking him in the head and knocking him unconscious, when he stabbed Edgar, the TV station reported.
Deputies confirmed that a knife was recovered at the scene, KCAL reported.
