Coronavirus: 6-year-old becomes youngest in Florida to die from COVID-19

TAMPA, Fla. — A 6-year-old girl in west-central Florida became the youngest Florida resident to die from the coronavirus, according to health records.

According to records from the Florida Department of Health, the girl, who lived in Hillsborough County, was one of seven new deaths reported in the county, WFLA reported.

The agency’s list of deaths state’s the girl’s death was counted Monday. She becomes the eighth child in Florida to die from COVID-19, WTVT reported.

Before this week’s list was released, the youngest child to die from COVID-19 was recorded July 18, when 9-year-old Kimora “Kimmie” Lynum died in Putnam County on the state’s east coast, CNN reported. Lynum had no existing health conditions, the news network reported.

The other children who have died were an 11-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl in Miami-Dade County, an 11-year-old girl in Broward County, a 16-year-old girl in Lee County, a 17-year-old boy in Pasco County and a 17-year-old boy in Manatee County, according to health department officials

The child is one of 10,168 Florida residents to die of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, WFTS reported. Hillsborough County has had 159 deaths, health officials said.

Since March, 47,489 Florida residents under the age of 18 have tested positive for the coronavirus, CBS News reported.
