Fire departments hold fundraisers, fill homeowners’ pools

With temperatures starting to climb into the summer heatwave, fire departments have come up with a unique fundraiser to help residents cool off.

Typically the Buena Vista Fire Department holds chicken barbeques to raise money, but it has added another way to start the cash flowing in - pool service.

The fire department is filling up its tanker truck and will come empty it into back yard pools for a fee of $75, WDBJ reported.

Dalton Argenbright told WDBJ they bring in a good amount of money with the water delivery service and it is cheaper for the pool owners than using their hose to fill up a pool with the thousands of gallons water needed.

The Buena Vista Fire Department isn’t the only group of first responders who come to the aid of pool owners in need of a fill-up.

Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department in Pennsylvania also helps get pools ready for swimmers.

The Redding Township Volunteer Fire Department also uses the swimming season as a fundraiser, charging $50 for every 2000 gallons needed, The Tribune in Seymore, Indiana, reported.
