A California man is accused of possessing more than 16 pounds of methamphetamine when he was stopped by a Nebraska deputy on Friday, authorities said.
According to a news release from the Seward County Sheriff’s Office, Valentin Mendoza Jr., 42, was arrested on Feb. 3 and charged with suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possession of more than 140 grams of meth.
Mendoza was stopped by a Seward County deputy on Interstate 80 near Goehner for multiple traffic violations, The Lincoln Journal Star reported.
According to Sheriff Mike Vance, the deputy “became suspicious” that Mendoza was “involved in criminal activity,” KIKN-TV reported.
In the news release, the deputy found packages of crystal methamphetamine hidden in the doors of the 2021 Chrysler Voyager that Mendoza was driving.
The total weight of the meth was determined to be more than 16 pounds, the sheriff’s office said.
