Recall alert: Faulty speedometers prompt recall of BRP snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles

STURTEVANT, Wis. — BRP U.S. Inc. on Thursday issued a pair of recalls on Thursday affecting both snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles because their speedometers can display half of the vehicle’s true speed, posing crash hazards.

The recalls affect some 400 Ski-Doo 2022 Expedition, Grand Touring, Renegade, Skandic and Tundra snowmobiles, as well as about 1,300 2022 Can-Am Outlander 450, 450 Max, 570 and 570 Max model ATVs.

The affected snowmobiles, manufactured in Canada, were sold at Ski-Doo dealers nationwide from June 2021 through December 2021 for between $9,300 and $9,900. BRP has fielded four reports to date of the vehicles’ speedometers not displaying the correct speed, but no injuries linked to the affected models have been reported.

The affected ATVs, manufactured in Mexico, were sold at Can-Am dealers nationwide from July 2021 through November 2021 for between $6,700 and $7,700. To date, Sturtevant, Wisconsin-based BRP has fielded two reports of the vehicles’ speedometers not displaying the correct speed, but no injuries linked to the affected models have been reported.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled snowmobiles and ATVs and contact the respective dealers for a free repair. BRP is contacting all known purchasers directly to coordinate the free repair with dealers to update the engine control module.
