On what would have been animal activist Steve Irwin’s 58th birthday, his family paid tribute on social media Saturday.

Irwin’s daughter, Bindi Irwin, shared a photo of herself with the “Crocodile Hunter" on Instagram.

“Dad, Today is your birthday,” Bindi Irwin, 21, wrote on Instagram. “I had an extra strong cup of tea just how you liked it. I hugged Mum for you and told her how much we love her. Robert and I went on a hike through the mountains you cherished.

“Today and every day I miss you and love you beyond description. You’re always with me. ”

Steve Irwin died Sept. 4, 2006, after a barb from a stingray pierced his chest while he was filming a wildlife show, “Ocean’s Deadliest,” in the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.

“Today would’ve been Steve’s 58th birthday,” Terri Irwin wrote. “While my heart aches missing him every day, I’m determined to celebrate what he loved the most. He was happiest spending time @AustraliaZoo w/ @BindiIrwin & @RobertIrwin. He was my best friend, best dad, & built the best Zoo. I love you.”

Bindi’s Irwin’s fiancé, Chandler Powell, also posted an Instagram tribute to Steve Irwin on Saturday.
