Tropical Storm Cristobal forms out in the Atlantic Ocean

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — At 6:20 a.m. Sunday there was a 6.0 magnitude earthquake in San Francisco. The National Hurricane Center also upgraded Tropical Depression No. 4 to Tropical Storm Cristobal.

It has max winds of 45 mph. The storm is moving north at about 10 mph. It will slowly track through the Bahamas on Monday and will stay far offshore of the Florida coast on Tuesday.

Models keep Cristobal well away from the Carolina coast and Eastern Seaboard. The latest National Hurricane Center tracks have shifted farther east.

The storm is still moving north and will not make that crucial turn for another two days.

SPECIAL SECTON: Hurricanes, tropical storms

Since this is still several days away, there is a very large area of uncertainty on where this will go. As of now, it could bring some rough surf across the coast of the Carolinas.
