HICKORY, N.C.,None — The state Department of Transportation has shut down two of three lanes of traffic along U.S. Highway 70 at Valley Hills Mall in Hickory to make final repairs to a sinkhole that opened up May 19.

On Wednesday, road crews tore up the pavement in the area that they filled in two weeks ago.

The DOT is installing a new 24-inch storm drainage line 2 feet in diameter under the six-lane highway to prevent future problems.
