Officials at UNC Charlotte met Friday to review plans for the university's new football stadium.

A football program was approved in early August after years of debate. Construction of the on-campus, 15,000-seat stadium is set to begin in May. It will be located adjacent to the Charlotte Research Institute and Tryon Street entrance to the campus, and will include a field house and hospitality deck overlooking the field.

The stadium will cost about $40 million. Part of the funding is coming from seat licenses, in addition to increased student fees and private support.

During Friday morning's meeting, the university's Board of Trustees reviewed an architectural presentation of the stadium and saw the most recent renderings.

The stadium is scheduled to open in 2013. UNCC's opening game for its first football season is against Campbell on Aug. 31, 2013.
