EF-0, EF-1 tornadoes confirmed in SC during Monday's storms

Three tornadoes were confirmed in South Carolina during Monday night’s severe weather.

The National Weather Service in Greer surveyed damage near Whitmire, S.C., on Tuesday afternoon, estimating wind speeds up to 100 mph. The tornado was rated an EF-1, traveling up to 1.25 miles across Union County. One fatality was reported due a mobile home being flipped.

NWS Greer also confirmed an EF-0 tornado near Berea, S.C., northwest of Greenville. That tornado, which occurred around 2:15 p.m, traveled 3 miles, with a width of 50 yards through Pickens and Greenville counties. The strongest wind speed estimated inside the storm was 85 mph.

About 100 miles southeast of Berea, an EF-1 tornado was confirmed by the NWS in Columbia near Monetta, S.C. The tornado produced wind speeds up to 90 mph as it traveled nearly a mile across Aiken County. The twister occurred around 4:15 p.m. with an estimated width of 100 yards.
