Therapist helps you color through stress on National Coloring Day

Normally done in a group setting, mental health expert Rwenshaun Miller will host a virtual edition of adult coloring. One of his signature events, Miller will help participants color through stress.

In conjunction with National Coloring Day, Miller will focus on mental wellness in the community.

“Stress levels can be high right now, so it is a very important time to make your mental health a priority,” Miller said. “We’re going to introduce some good stress.”

Coloring isn’t just for kids, and research shows coloring offers plenty of mental benefits and has therapeutic potential to reduce anxiety and create focus.

“A lot of times, we don’t enjoy the pleasure that we had as a kid when we become an adult,” said Rwenshaun Miller, founder of Eustress Inc. “Coloring is a simple way that you can introduce self-care into your daily routine.”

Miller said that just like meditation, coloring allows us to switch off our brains from other feelings and concentrate only on the moment, helping to lessen anxiety.

However, adult coloring has been shown to influence more than anxiety and can significantly lower levels of depressive symptoms.

Tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Miller will host “Eustress In Color: Virtual Adult Coloring Night.” During the event, he will offer additional critical mental health resources. Live music will be provided by DJ Skillz.

“Grab your coloring books, crayons, markers and coloring sheets,” he said. “Most importantly, we want this to be an opportunity for everybody to have fun and create a sense of community.”
