• Prom dresses offered to Charlotte students

High school girls in Charlotte will have the opportunity to receive a prom dress and accessories Saturday – all for free! Girl Talk Foundation Inc. will be holding its 16th Annual Prom Project event.

The “glam” day event is about more than just receiving a dress. The girls will participate in an experience that will boost their self-esteem and prepare them with lifelong social skills.

As a prerequisite for receiving the shopping experience and makeover services, girls must attend an interactive etiquette class where they will learn life lessons on social etiquette. Law enforcement experts will also be at the event to educate the girls on prom and date safety.

"It’s a unique experience because many of the girls have never been taught that before," said Janine Davis, founder of Girl Talk Foundation. "So they have to go through that so they understand how to be a lady on that special night."

Girl Talk Foundation is a nonprofit that focuses on developing teenage girls socially, emotionally and physically through programming and special events.

Prom Project will be held at ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center. Advanced registration is required for girls attending the event. There are a limited number of dresses available so to learn more and register for this event, click here.
