Black-owned business spotlight: Red Pen Graphics

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Just a few miles away from North Mecklenburg High School on Old Statesville Road, former graduate Kevin “CJ” Pate is busy fulfilling orders at his printing shop.

The owner of Red Pen Graphics says he never really considered himself to be an artist until a teacher took notice of his work.

That recognition inspired Pate to study digital printing and publishing at North Carolina A&T State University.

Black-owned business profiles:

After graduating from college, he worked at some of the larger printing and graphics companies in Charlotte before opening his own business in 2012.

His company specializes in designing and installing signs, vehicle wraps and banners.

Pate’s clients have included Belk and Bottle Cap Restaurant Group. Last year, he worked with the NBA during All-Star Weekend in Charlotte.
