TROUTMAN, N.C.,None — A 22-Year-Old drowned Saturday at Lake Norman State Park while on an overnight camping trip.
The park superintendent told Eyewitness News the victim was with a church group from Kannapolis.
Investigators said the group had been camped out overnight with about 40 other people.
According to authorities, the group had gone swimming at about 11 a.m. The group reported the victim missing a short time later.
Authorities said another swimmer discovered the victim's body in the water at about 1:30 p.m.
The group told investigators the victim was not a strong swimmer.
This is the first drowning of the year at Lake Norman State Park.
The park superintendent said this should be a reminder that only experienced swimmers should get into the water.
