CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Erica Forgach and her fiancé, Chris Katsanos, shortened their three-day stay at Hidden Creek Cabins, a mountain retreat in Bryson City, to one night after seeing the condition of their cabin.
"Here's the stained towel," Forgach said, showing a picture.
"Yeah, would you put that on your face?" Katsanos asked.
They have photos of dead bugs they said were everywhere.
"So nasty," Forgach said.
They also showed Channel 9 photos of mold in the bathroom, duct tape holding the Jacuzzi together and dried food on dishes in the dishwasher.
The couple said after they complained to the manager, she refunded their $45 cleaning fee, but not the $360 they paid online to book the three-night stay.
"She said, 'No, we can't do that.' I even offered to pay for the one night, but she said no," Katsanos said.
Action 9 called Hidden Creek Cabins and got the owner on the phone. Then Channel 9 sent him the couple's photos.
The owner said he had thousands of happy guests but promised to fix these issues.
Within days, he sent Action 9 pictures of the changes he made and Channel 9 showed them to Katsanos.
The owner also sent Katsanos a refund check of $297.
Katsanos said his advice for booking in unfamiliar places is "just do your research. Check reviews."
