Action 9: Man frustrated by delay in roof installation

MOORESVILLE, N.C.,None — A Mooresville man paid for a new roof six months ago, but he says there was a delay in installing it.

Percell Vanderburg showed Action 9 how a leaking roof had left his bedroom ceiling stained and sagging.

He was upset the problem wasn't fixed last August, after he paid Thompson Roofing $4,900 upfront to install a metal roof.

Vanderburg said owner Louie Thompson agreed to throw in gutters and repair the ceiling free of charge. But Vanderburg said Thompson never showed up.

Thompson's crew did come out to remove the old gutters, but after that, Vanderburg said, the owner gave him one excuse after another.

“(It) makes me feel bad, because my money is out there and I need a roof,” Vanderburg said.

But after Action 9 got in touch with Thompson, he sent a crew to install Vanderburg’s metal roof.

Greg Starnes, the lead installer, told Action 9 that Thompson has been dealing with personal issues involving his son.

“His son's been sick and that's slowed everything down,” Starnes said.

Vanderburg is happy he's finally getting his roof.

“I appreciate you guys,” he said. “I don't think I could have got it done without you.”

While the roof is now on, Thompson promises the gutters and ceiling will be finished this week.

Vanderburg said it's taught him to never pay until the work is finished.
