ROCK HILL, S.C.,None — More than 3,000 customers in the Manchester/ Galleria area of Rock Hill were without power this morning because a crow got into the wiring, city officials say.
Traffic lights were out along Dave Lyle Boulevard, including at Interstate 77, impacting the morning commute.
Power was restored around 7:30 a.m.
Last month, a snake caused power outages in the same area.
City spokeswoman Katie Quinn said it's not unusual for the city to have occasional problems with snakes and squirrels.
In an unrelated outage, Duke Energy and York Electric Cooperative are working together to repair a blown transformer in the India Hook/Mount Gallant Road area that left more than 2,000 YEC customers without power this morning.
The substation that feeds that area of town is one of the older ones, meaning the transformer belongs to Duke Energy, said York Electric spokesman Marc Howie. Most of the newer substations don't have that problem.
Currently the cooperative is providing the customers with power through "backfeeding" the India Hook substation from another nearby substation.
"As the temperature climbs, we have to monitor to make sure we're not putting too much on the substation that's doing the feeding," he said.
Hopefully the temperature will not get too hot, he said.
"We are anxiously waiting to get Duke Energy to replace their transformers," Howie said. "Then we can have that issue resolved."
Duke Energy officials have predicted the transformer will be replaced by this afternoon.
