Bond Denied For Man Charged In Wife's Death

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — A Kings Mountain man accused of killing his wife made his first court appearance on Monday.

Joseph Crosby, 46, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 51-year-old Gaylain Crosby.

Joe Crosby called 911 early Saturday morning and said he may have killed his wife, according to the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office.

"Me and my wife got into it," he says in the 911 call. "I think I might have killed her."

"You think you might have what?" the dispatcher asks.

"Killed my wife. I don't know," he says.

Deputies said they arrived at the home, located on Mary's Grove Church Road in the Stoney Point Community, at about 1 a.m. and found Gaylain dead. Deputies have not said how she died.

The couple's daughter, 21-year-old Tia Crosby, was in court Monday to support her father.

"He needs to know that we love him," she said. "I definitely forgive him and I definitely love him."

She said her parents' relationship has always been full of love.

"I've never seen a loving family like that, a loving relationship like that," Tia said.

She said she had dinner with her parents in Charlotte on Friday and then came home to watch a movie.

"My parents were embracing on the couch [and] everything was happy," said Tia, who is a student at UNC Chapel Hill.

Tia Crosby said she was only apart from the couple for about 20 minutes and in that time, they had an argument over money.

Minutes later, she said, she found her father in a state of shock.

"I don't think he was in the state to accept the fact that my mom was dead," she said.

A judge denied Joe Crosby's bond on Monday. Still, Tia said her parents always supported each other, adding that her mother would want her to support her father.

"I think she would want me step up and help lift him up," she said.

Deputies said Joe has cooperated in the investigation.
