Bus driver called hero for stopping man with gun at school

FRANKLIN, N.C. — Police said a North Carolina couple found outside an elementary school with loaded guns told officers they would have started shooting students and teachers, if it was God's will.

Police found Adam Conley and his girlfriend Kathryn Jeter outside South Macon Elementary School early Thursday morning.

Investigators said the couple had five pistols on them.

"He was a very sick individual. He had been for a very long time, I mean everyone knows him in the neighborhood," said Courtney Stamey, a parent of a child at the school.

Police said a bus driver discovered the couple when she pulled up to the school.

She told officers one of the suspects pointed a gun at her.

"He just pointed it at me, and I said 'Lord he's going to shoot me.' I just full boarded by car and went towards him," bus driver Alice Bradley said.

The bus driver said the suspect did not shoot, but instead walked away.

She called 911 and when officers arrived, they said the couple also aimed a gun at them.

Police and students' families are praising the bus driver's brave actions.

Conley and Jeter are facing dozens of charges.
